i took a few shots of the kids the other night for a post on the giveaway blog...i was so happy with the images i came away with of my boy. he only gave me a couple minutes, i don't think he was feeling very good, and it was almost bedtime. but hey, you get what you can, or at least that's what i've learned when it comes to shooting my own children...make it fun, come armed with surprises, and when they are done, let them be done. anyway, i can't believe how grown up he looks in these photos and how much of his personality shines through. he was having fun hamming it up a bit for me for sure!
my sweetness. he really wanted his horsie in the photos for a bit...who am i to tell him otherwise?! cutie pants!
stinker!!
this was actually the first time i've photographed my own kiddos in a while, especially hollis...he's not a huge fan of the camera these days...i have to say, even though it didn't last long, we had fun together!
xo,
my beautiful birthday boy...

donna kept ava overnight saturday, so i had hollis all to myself saturday night and on his birthday sunday. we missed her terribly, but it was super sweet to give him all the attention, have him one on one, and get to spoil him a bit. it was his birthday, after all! we headed out in the morning to buy cake mix for his birthday cake. yes, i am that mom. the one that doesn't make his birthday cake until the day of the party. anyway, he had fun carrying the cake and sprinkles around the store telling everyone he had "cake". such a proud little guy. here he is in the car...reading the instructions on the back of the cake box, i'm sure...
a few of the deocorations...
i don't have any party pics, too busy doing the hostess thing...but i know some family does. i'll get some posted soon so you can see all the action...family, lots of cake, presents, playing outside, and a pinata, of course!!! it was an amazing day. we are so blessed to have this boy.

this boy is so, so loved. we had all the family come out and help celebrate hollis' special day with cake and swimming. his auntie christina even made him an amazing little submarine smash cake! it really makes my heart full when i look around and see so much love for my children. we are so blessed.
i have tried several times to write this post with several photos, but we have been experiencing some technical difficulty over here. so, two photos will have to work for now! it was a great evening celebrating a super special baby boy. my baby turns ONE...

simple man
>> Monday, May 3, 2010
i love this song. every time i hear it i think of my husband. he is pretty simple {in a totally wonderful way}. the perfect mix of soulful melody and beautiful words, describe him, like somebody spoke these same words to him when he was a boy. i think it is rare to find a man like mine.
now i sing this song to our son when i am rocking him to sleep. i would love for him to grow up and be just like his daddy.
baby be a simple man.
xo,
mama

thanks mimi for going out with us and helping me keep the little guy safe while he was posing for us! you're the best! springedy spring

if i were a season, i would want to be spring. love spring. warmth is creeping in, everything is blooming, beautiful, & new. it's like a fresh start each year. the texas bluebonnets are my favorite sign of spring. i love driving down the highways and seeing patches of blue & green sprinkled along the way, like happy little reminders that spring is here!
i took the littles out to check out my favorite local bluebonnet fields and see how things are blooming. i am taking some pics for friends and family this year, so wanted to make sure things looked good before i drug everyone out there! my favorite field looked so gorgeous in the evening light, so despite the wind, we decided to head out and try and get some bluebonnet shots. it was cRAzY windy out, so hollis ended up in the stroller most of the time and ava's hair was a hot mess...we're gonna try again another night. she had so much fun dancing in the flowers. i had so much fun watching her. we needed tonight. a night giggling among the blue and green dancing in the wind and the setting sun.

jon and jen are going to have the most gorgeous drive down next week! {yes, that's right, i said NEXT WEEK!!!!!} i CAN'T wait to see them!!!!!!!! counting the days! parkin' it
we spent sunday morning at my mom's coloring easter eggs, hunting easter eggs and watching toy story! then headed out to my dad's for an easter lunch with friends and some relaxing at the lake! such an awesome day! we decided after lunch to take the kids to the park a few blocks from my dad's place {and leave daddy behind to catch some zzzzzz's! workin nights can be rough!} needless to say, ava had an absolute blast, so many new and cool park toys to play on, and best of all poppy and mimi's full attention! she was in heaven! mimi got some great shots of our afternoon at the park with her new little camera! so glad she had it along!
hollis slept most of the time we were there, but did wake up for some smiles and chit chat with mimi!

i iread this quote on another blog i love to read...it spoke to me, wanted to share.Rainer Maria Rilke
Letters To A Young Poet
my photography is my journey, my passion. i have learned so much over the past two years and have barely scratched the surface of all their is to know. i have to remind myself to be patient, to keep shooting and learning and every once in a while i get a shot of one of my children that melts my heart, makes me smile, laugh out loud, or even get a little emotional.
i am excited to go on a little excursion with my photography meet up group saturday morning. i love getting together with this group of people, learning from them, sharing with them, and all for the love of photography. it's gonna be good getting out and doing something for just me, it's been too long.

that's a line from a song that has always stood out to me...i see it more with hollis than i do with ava..maybe because i see more of bo in him and more of myself in ava...not sure...but it feels right.front porch sittin'
>> Thursday, March 25, 2010
Things have been super mellow around here this week. it's been nice. we've been doing a whole lot of cleaning, playing in the sunshine, watching the "chickmunks" {yes, alvin, simon, & theodore}, and just enjoying each other! i really feel like we do live the "simple life"...no drama {except from the two year old, but that's a whole different story!} just enjoying every day, every moment with those that are the most important to us. life is good.
the front porch is by far my favorite part of our house...it's the best place to hang when it's a gorgeous day! we pull out the exersaucer for hollis and ava can play her little heart out with all of her "outside toys" {which she tries to sneak into the house one by one..,}. so many amazing memories on that porch. i remember after bo and my first real date, we spent hours on the porch just talking and staring at the stars...i love that our house has history, for his family and ours. it's amazing to think of all that has happened in this house.
this is the house that bo's great aunt and great grandparents lived in for many, many years.
this is the house that bo's dad moved into when his parents got divorced.
this is the house that bo lived in when i met him. he was living with his dad.
this is the house i lived in for several years with bo and his dad. {i am so thankful for this time. bo's dad is a lot like him, very quiet. these years gave me the opportunity to really get to know him in a way that i never would have without them. he really is a second father to me.}
this is the house that bo and i moved back into a few months before we got married.
this is the house we have brought both of our babies home to.
this is the house ava took her first steps.
we don't live in a fancy neighborhood, the paint may be chipping, we may have already outgrown it, and there is a lot this house doesn't have, but i am in love with it. this is more than a house to me. it is a home. it is where my heart is.
bo says that hollis is a "mama's boy"....well, i'm quite the "boy's mama", too...he has me wrapped.
the objects of ava's affection...yep, a tub full of bo's old cars, trucks, planes. she is so into anything with wheels right now!
she was totally engrossed in this helicopter propellor...i love watching her figure out how things work.
